Best aftermarket backup camera reddit11/21/2023 ![]() ![]() How likely is it that a remote starter could cause a parasitic draw on a battery?Īre there any "controllers" or "ecu like" components that accept the remote signal and could be drawing power? I would send her back to the same shop that installed them, but I've never had a favorable opinion of this mechanic and when she questioned them on this being a possibility and basically denied all responsibility. It has an aftermarket remote starter, and an aftermarket backup camera and monitor installed in it about 5 years ago. There are 2 aftermarket electronics in there and I'm concerned that this could be the source, and this is why I'm asking for advice here. At this point I want her to stop going to the local grumpy old mechanic that's cheap on labor and either go to the dealership or another specialist to get this fixed once and for all or it's just going to keep happening. Typically after a new battery it's okay for 3 or 4 months, but over time if she doesn't drive for a 2-3 days in a row it kills the battery, and often times it struggles to trickle charge. Long story short is that she has gone through an alternator replacement and multiple (like 5 or 6!) battery replacements.
